The Reverend
Alex Herasimtschuk,
Priest-in-Charge

Originally from Poughkeepsie, NY, Reverend Alex was recently called to be Priest-in-Charge at Zion in
August 2022, and he is excited to once again be living and serving in the Hudson Valley. Before answering the call to ordained ministry, Alex spent most of his adult life in college academia, as a professor of philosophy and religious studies, in addition to working as an academic counselor and professional tutor. He earned his M.A. in Religious Studies from Syracuse University and his M. Div. from Union Theological Seminary, focusing on New Testament and early-Christian and Patristic studies. He is also a big fan of mystical and contemplative writings, his most favorite being the 14 th Century English mystics.
Recently ordained to the Priesthood in September 2022, Father Alex has served several parishes in New York City both during and after seminary, including the Church of St. Luke in the Fields in Greenwich Village, The Church of the Good Shepherd in Wakefield, and, most recently, the Church of the Transfiguration in NoHo.
In addition to working in ministry, Father Alex and his brother, Christian, are members of the music duo, Novus Cantus, writing and performing original works influenced by rock, early-music, and Flamenco styles. Father Alex has been married for twelve years to his wife, Poppy, and they enjoy, among many things, travelling, cooking, cycling, and playing tennis together.

Fr. Alex was ordained at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, in New York City, on Saturday, September 24. Here’s some photos from that special day.
